Light to Africa International – a Canadian-based Charitable Organization – has donated some items to an orphanage in Sekyikrom, a village close to Nsawam in the Eastern Region.
The organisation, made up of Ghanaians who are based in Toronto, Canada, donated some food items, laptops and an unspecified amount of money to the Rev. Obli Foundation – an orphanage that houses about 22 children in Sekyikrom.
The Executive Director for the Charitable Organization, Nana Yaw Asare said: “There is a lot of hardship in the system currently, and we want to help lift the burden of Rev. Obli and the government. We are here to donate these items and offer the children an opportunity to go to university. We will also help them with scholarships”.
One of the Patrons of Light to Africa International, Florence Gyau, also said the organisation will help government fulfil its promise of ensuring that every Ghanaian child is educated.
“As human beings we tend to forget about the many small villages around us. These small villages have a lot of children who are not educated. It’s our belief there will be a change of behaviour in our children if they have an education.
“If government is offering free education to our children, we will support them.” She promised that this is not a one-time donation and the Foundation will continue to make more donations to help the children.
